Government must control cost of PCR testing

Commenting on the re-introduction of PCR testing for all international arrivals, Henry Smith MP, Chair of the APPG for the Future of Aviation said:

“With the re-introduction of PCR tests, it is essential that Government ensures that we avoid the profiteering that we have previously seen and that any rogue providers are prevented from exploiting those travelling over the next few weeks.

“The Government must as a matter of urgency focus on the cost of testing and as a minimum consider removing VAT from testing and explore options to bring the cost of testing down to a minimum or ideally free of charge.

“Whilst public health remains our priority, over the next few weeks many people will be hoping to travel to visit friends and family some for the first time in nearly two years and we must not allow testing to add a further financial burden and cost. We need action from the Government on the cost of testing and a clear plan to support the aviation and travel industries through and out of the challenging weeks ahead.”
