Time to end the tax on travel
Henry Smith MP, Chair of the APPG for the Future of Aviation has today joined industry leaders in calling for reform of the testing regime.
Commenting he said:
“With the high cost of testing acting as a major disincentive to international travel there is a real need for the Government to tackle this tax on travel and reduce the costs that are holding back our recovery.
“There is a real case to made that we should be moving away from the costly PCR tests for low risk countries replacing them with cheaper lateral flow tests backed up by PCR tests where needed, with the Government also taking the much-needed step of removing VAT from all tests.
“At present a family of four travelling to see family overseas could be hit with a testing bill of up £500 which is not only unacceptable it is unnecessary. The Government must use the next review point to ensure that international travel and our recovery is not held back by this unnecessary and damaging tax on travel.”
