Testing rules for children illogical and confusing

The All-Party Parliamentary Group for the Future of Aviation have today called for under 11’s to be exempt from PCR testing from low risk nations. Currently, children under the age of 11 are exempt from taking pre-departure tests before travelling back to the UK. However, for post-arrival PCR tests, only children under the age of five are exempt.

Commenting, Henry Smith MP, Chair of the APPG for the Future of Aviation said:

“This is another clear example of the weak and unworkable framework that has been put in place for the restart of international travel.  This rule is illogical, onerous and confusing and reinforces that the current framework is simply not fit for purpose and the Government must act urgently to remove all children under 11 from tests from low risk nations and put in place a system that is clear, logical and affordable.

“We must not allow well deserved summer holidays or visiting friends and relatives to be held back by an illogical and ill thought through framework or sky-high testing costs.”
