Statement on Job Retention Scheme - Future of Aviation Group

Following on from the announcement made by the Chancellor on the future of the coronavirus job retention scheme, Henry Smith MP, Chair of the Future of Aviation Group said:

“The UK’s aviation and tourism industries have been amongst the most negatively affected sectors by COVID-19 and the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme has provided much needed support.

“Our economic and social recovery will be dependent on thriving aviation, travel and tourism sectors and the Government has much more to do to support their recovery; this must include a longer-term furlough scheme which reflects the exceptional circumstances faced by the businesses, employees and local economies who depend on these sectors.

“As an island nation, we can’t have an economic recovery without aviation and it is essential that the Government dramatically step up their support for this vital sector both in terms of financial support and ending the ill-conceived 14-day quarantine plans.
