Government approach risks paralysing our aviation, travel and tourism industries
Following remarks made by Environment Secretary George Eustice MP, Chair of the APPG for the Future of Aviation Henry Smith MP said:
“It beggars belief that whilst the rest of Europe begins to reopen that it seems to be the active policy of the UK Government to keep UK aviation in a state of shutdown. We have gone from a restart based on data and science to the near total closure of our airports without proper explanation or justification, with the traffic light system joining the myriad of false dawns for our aviation, travel and tourism industries.
“The decisions and overly cautious approach taken by Ministers risk paralysing our aviation, travel and tourism industries and cutting the UK off from the rest of the world, holding back our recovery and causing further job losses.
“If the Government are content to keep international travel effectively shut down then they must bring forward significant financial support to protect aviation, travel and tourism businesses, communities and their employees and set out clearly the rationale for why we are taking such a different approach from our European neighbours.”
